Union Pacific Railroad's legendary steam locomotive No. 844 arrived in Council Bluffs from Cheyenne, Wyo., on Wednesday, pulling a special train celebrating the 50th anniversary of 844's move from the Bluffs to Cheyenne.
The trip is a fundraiser for the U.P. Railroad Museum. The last steam locomotive built for U.P., 844 was saved from being scrapped in 1960. On Thursday and Friday, the locomotive will be at Golden Spike Park, South 21st Street and Ninth Avenue in the Bluffs.
It will move to the Durham Museum on Friday evening and depart for its return trip west Saturday morning. Denise O'Connor of Council Bluffs, left and below left, and Brian Schwartz of Mountain Home, Ark., take photos of 844 in the Bluffs on Wednesday.
