Books by the Busload giveaway Feb. 17-18
Need a good book?
Metropolitan Community College is teaming up with Metro, Cargo Zone, Mainfreight and the Literacy Center to give away thousands Feb. 17 and 18 with the Books by the Busload event.
Metro buses will be filled with books for all ages and reading levels. People can pick out up to five books each to take home — for free.
The event is designed to promote literacy for families and adults who aren't aware of the literacy services available in Omaha.
The buses will be at three locations — Westroads Mall in the Dick's Sporting Good parking lot; the Salvation Army Kroc Center, 2825 Y St.; and Baker's Supermarket, 7312 N. 30th St. — from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The book donations are the work of MCC Foundation board member Terry McMullen, who is managing director of Mainfreight USA/Omaha and president of Cargo Zone.
'Love, Laughter and Chocolate' at Shadow Lake
Two local authors will present "Love, Laughter and Chocolate" on Saturday at the Chocolaterie Stam at Shadow Lake Towne Center in Papillion.
Humorist Vicky DeCoster, author of "From Diapers to Dorkville," and romance-with-cowboys writer Mary Connealy, whose latest book is "In Too Deep," will sign their books from 10 a.m. to noon.
They're both pretty funny, so be prepared to laugh.
